Cecità Rental - ongoing project

This is a game I primarily designed and developed with a small team. I am the main game designer, level designer, 3D Artist as well as audio designer. All environment assets are created by me.
This page documents all the environmental assets I created for the game. Links to the character page will be added in the future.

I set the art direction for this game to be Wes Anderson style, colorful but eerie, centered on weirdcore and liminal space feelings. The primary color palette is orange and yellow, with complementary colors of blue or green to create high contrast.

Tools: Maya, Zbrush, Substance Painter, Unity, Marmoset Toolbag

Trailer & Playthrough (March,20, 2024)

Cecità Rental is an immersive 3D horror adventure game where you unravel mysteries by day and rely on sound to navigate the unsettling and dangerous darkness by night in a weird apartment building.

Sound-Based Horror Game + New Weird Genre + Strange Rules, we want to add new blood to Horror Games that is saturated with traditional haunted houses and monsters.

The Apartment Hallway

The hallway is an unsafe liminal space where you have to close your eyes and rely on Broadcast to navigate through to safety. The narrative tells you that everyone in this apartment is blind except you. If you open your eyes for too long, something will notice. Also, beware of the people you pass by in the hallway, they do not like to be bumped into.

For the art, I determined to create that uneasy, liminal vibe. The hallway is primarily orange and yellow, it's pleasant on first look because of the warm colors. But the longer I stare at it, the longer the repetitive pattern is, I gradually feel uneasy.

The Lounge: Saferoom

The Lounge is a saferoom you would pass by during the night. It has soothing jazz music and provides sofa for you to relax on.  To convey that feeling of safety, I took the warm orange color from Hallway and added Green as my other primary color palette. The combination of those two colors make the scene look comfortable. For the decorations and items in this room, I chose blue as the third color (on the paintings and on the lamp) to create some contrast and freshness.

The Emergency Service Room

The emergency service room has two parts: The common room and The employee only room (hidden) . During the night, you will need to get to the emergency room to get help returning to the normal (day) world.

This is the Emergency Room (common part). In here, you will gain access to a telephone to call for help.

I use dark red and yellow as primary color palette.
